World Championship of Poker 2010

Ryan "g0lfa" D'Angelo stood out from the pack on the 20th day of the 2010 World Championship of Online Poker and took his third gold bracelet in this event. He was playing in $500 No-Limit Hold'em and claimed a first place prize of $199,450.35. When this poker player makes it to the final table, he makes waves and his versatility is always a threat to other players. This win also bumped his winnings in this years competition up to $325 000 to date, but so far his poker career has earned him around $1.6 million. However this is only one of many events being hosted by Poker Stars and there is still a lot of prize money to go around.

The World Championship of Online Poker was launched in 2002 by Poker Stars and has steadily grown into one of the richest online tournaments available today. In 2002 the prize pool was a total of $730 000 and this year more than $50 000 000 was up for grabs. The first tournament took place in July and it featured nine events. The final table was fielded by 565 players and the winner was "MultiMarine", from Sweden who pocketed a prize of $65 450 . Last year in 2009, was the biggest WCOOP event ever and players from 140 countries played in 45 events which took place over a period of 18 days.

The current WCOOP has been the host to a variety of poker games and events and some of the most popular with players are the two day events. APowers1968 also walked away with a gold bracelet for the two day event and as grueling as this was, managed to show other players he has what it takes to win.

The two day events have received a mixed reception from the online poker playing community; many prefer to play through without a break in one day, while others would rather be fresh to continue play. With a $1,000 +$50 buy-in 1,224 players joined in to battle it out and this cannot be deemed to be a poor show of support. Some players bought their way in, while others were awarded seats by winning satellite tournaments at Poker Stars. Satellite into these events is a popular way to get in, with this costing from as little as $1.20!

With a million dollar guaranteed, most players did not need that much encouragement to participate. At the end of the proceedings the prize pool exceeded a million and came in at $1.224 million. First place alone was valued at $213,955.20 and this shows us that online poker certainly carries some clout as far as prize money is concerned. There was no shortage of green with the main event carrying a $10 000 000 million guarantee. With no shortage of events and prize money to go around, the 2010 World Championship of Online Poker could turn out to be the biggest competition held yet; breaking all previous records.
